More historical Arkansas Adventures on Wednesday, March 24, 2010
I decided on this day, we would visit Scott Arkansas. The Arkansas Plantation Museum and cotton gin-
Of course, you can't go in this area with out eating at Cothams! The best burgers and chicken fried steak! Real sweet tea and the "junk" around the store that hasn't moved in over 75 years make this a true historical landmark!

Spring Break Adventures! Tuesday March 23
Nathan is taking Arkansas History this semester. With each of my children, when they are in this class, I love to introduce them to some of the places they read about in their text book!
Yes, there are actually real "little rocks" which is how Little Rock got it's name. The French explorers traveling up the river had the first rock outcropping as a land mark. It was a boundary line for the Quapaw Indians and the settlers. Farther up the river, the rocks become large boulders and cliffs.
The Villa Marie. Used in the TV show Designing Women.
Stain glass windows at the Christ Episcopal church where the organist was practicing.
The red door at the Christ Episcopal Church. This has been a favorite scene of mine for years.
The historic Hanger House in the Quapaw Quarter.
One of my favorite historic places in Little Rock is Mount Holly Cemetery. Beautiful, artistic, historic and peaceful. Yet, as often as I have been there over the years, I never saw the Haley block!
Nathan doesn't like the smell at the cemetery. I think it is the aging sandstone and granite.
Not just tombstones but works of art that are usually signed by the artist. This family must have been very well off to be able to hire someone to create monuments for their two daughters in addition to the huge family marker.
The Empress Bed and Breakfast located behind the Governors Mansion.
We visited the new Heifer Project International Headquarters. Nathan decided to "visit" Egypt!

An ordinary Thursdsay........?
I had been so busy at work today that I did not have time to eat lunch. On the way home we drove through McDonald's for a snack wrap, Mickey D's sweet tea and their world famous fries!
Now this is odd..... Bill was recently hiking through the woods above Grace Church. Not odd. However, it was odd that he was startled when he came across what appeared to be leg bones! Janay, one of Haley's best friends is also one of Bill's guitar students, was at her lesson the next day. Her dad, Eric, picked her up. He is a detective for LRPD. Bill mentioned it to him and he said he would ask his department about checking them out. Well, they called Bill this morning asking him to show the detective where the bones were found. Not one, but six detectives showed up in their work clothes and their slick "city shoes" to follow Bill up the steep mountain! Only 3 made it all the way up with him. They found other bones scattered around the hill side. Luckily, the detective said they were deer bones! Steve Bowyer, our pastor, asked Bill if there was something he needed to tell him about the former pastors at Grace? Hmmmmmmm...... Bill decided not to share that story!! :-) Overall, Bill said it was a nice day for a walk in the woods. He brought home souvenirs!

My poor clueless brain!
This is the Fletcher Library where I absentmindedly took Nathan's library book and returned it. However, the book belonged to Mann Middle School! Nathan was told by his teacher that his book MUST be returned Monday. I returned it Sunday. So, I wrote an email to his teacher Mrs. Merry, with my explanation and had to go and retrieve it this afternoon. Geesh! Odd thing how easily she understood........
